About
Hoot ‘n Annie have delighted audiences around the world with their mix of traditional American music, folk songs and humor. They are multi-instrumentalists and vocalists, and between them play the banjo, fiddle, accordion, clarinet, ukulele, cello, drums, washboard, nose flute, slide-whistle, washtub bass, jaw harp, and musical saw. Most times they play a few instruments at once. With various parts of their bodies. While telling jokes. Or doing magic tricks. Or getting you up dancing– til you need to be hosed down.
They have appeared in various guises on PBS-TV, on National Public Radio, at the renowned Augusta Heritage Festival, and other famous festivals from Canada to Poland, and in prestigious venues like the New Jersey Performing Art Center, the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center, NYC, and at museums, libraries, community centers and schools in over a dozen states from coast to coast.
Hoot ‘n Annie believe in bringing traditional music to young people and it has always been a very important part of their musical life. In addition to the many concerts and youth orchestras at theatres and community centers across the country, Hoot ‘n Annie have a long-term relationship with Arts Horizons—a non-profit association for whom they have done years and years of programs in Public Schools. Shows include “We are All Americans,” a multi-cultural celebration, as well as “Saws, Jaws and Washboards”—a musical trip through the sounds of America.
Hoot ‘n Annie are frequent guests on WXPN’s Kids Corner, and have performed at many children’s museums and important family venues including The Franklin Institute and The Bronx Zoo. They also recently headlined at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. They have three “Editor’s top picks” CDs of family-friendly folk music.
